The only thing that matters....

Jeremiah 8:20

“The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.”

Thinking about what to post this morning, the verse above comes to mind.  This is the last day of July 2022.  In our area the next school year begins at the end of this week.  Family members are experiencing major changes in their place of worship.  Church life for my precious daughter is also changing.  No one can see beyond today but we all know Who holds the next breath.  Still, the ONLY part of life that matters is what has eternal effect.

I would prefer to tell you about my daughter and my granddaughter but my spirit is compelled to visit this verse.  Dear reader, "Are you saved?"  You have heard it preached, talked about and probably even given thought to it.  It says "we" and when studied fully probably refers to an earthly meaning.  However, the spiritual application is more forbidding.

Hell is mentioned 54 times in scripture.  Heaven is mentioned 691 times.  Heaven is given twelve times more than Hell.  Twelve in scripture usually refers to:  God's power and authority. As a side note, if Heaven is mentioned "twelve times more," then one may conclude it is crucial to discover why.

Why should one make sure heaven is the eternal destination?  Because hell is also eternal.  Verses that depict the  awfulness of that place; "outer darkness, weeping and gnashing of teeth, where the worm dieth not and the fire is not quenched" (Mt 8.12, 22.13) are too horrible to imagine.

Obviously, no one wants to go there.  How is it avoided? In John 14.6 the Lord clearly tells how to get to heaven.  He is the only One to bridge fellowship back to God, the Father.  There are other verses that tell of the blood and the cross but you can find those.

The plea of this blogger this morning is simply this, "examine yourself" whether you are found in Him or no.

My testimony, in part is that when I was 15 I went to the altar and asked the Lord to send someone to help me not go to hell.  The truth is, only He can open your heart to believe in Him and His  finished work at Calvary.

Dear reader, "The only thing that matters," is are you ready to die?  You are not ready to live unless you are ready to die.  Check your spiritual temperature.  Do you really "know Him."

"Call on Him while He is near." (Isa 55.6, 7)  "That is ALL that matters."

In His Name,

A believer since 1982
